Lenovo Introduces ThinkStation D20 & S20

Targeting professionals in fields such as computer-aided design, digital content creation, and oil and gas, Lenovo announced two powerful new desktop computing solutions, the ThinkStation D20 and S20. The two new workstations feature a choice of the latest Intel Xeon processors 5500 and W3500 Series as well as optional Intel Turbo Boost technology for extra performance during peak processing. By adding the NVIDIA Tesla C1060 GPU platform to the workstations, you’ll also get 240 additional cores of dedicated math processing power to help speed calculations.

In addition to processing power, you’ll also get your choice of the latest NVIDIA Quadro line of professional graphics cards or optional ATI FirePro graphics with these new workstations. The ThinkStation D20 and S20 are preloaded with Windows Vista and come with support for RedHat Enterprise Linux 5.2.

The new ThinkStation models are quieter than previous models and are also considered to be some of Lenovo’s greenest solutions. Both workstations use 50% recycled content. Nearly 30% of the recycled content in the ThinkStation D20 comes from post consumer recycled content. That’s roughly equivalent to the weight of approximately 19 plastic drinking water bottles. The workstations are also GREENGUARD certified and meet the Energy Star 5.0 criteria which will take effect in July.

In addition to the new ThinkStation desktops, Lenovo announced a new e-commerce platform called the Lenovo eLounge. The eLounge is designed to give customers a virtual 3D online shopping experience. Lenovo claims this online shopping experience will be similar to what you would receive in a retail store. Through the eLounge, you can create your own personal avatar, browse and interact with virtual products, walk around and share experiences with others, and speak directly with Lenovo sales representatives. The eLounge is available during normal business hours in the U.S.

The ThinkStation S20 and D20 will be available in the first quarter for prices starting at approximately $1,070 and $1,550, respectively.
