Lenovo Launches Four Smartphones Ahead Of CES, Including Its First LTE Handset

Like a lot of companies, Lenovo is about to get busy at CES--really busy. First up is Lenovo’s new spate of smartphones, headlined by the Lenovo Vibe Z, which is the company’s first LTE handset. There’s also the 6-inch S930, 4.7-inch S650, and 5-inch A859.

The Vibe Z ($549) is a thin phone (7.9mm) with Android 4.3 that rocks a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor (2.2GHz) and a 5.5-inch 1920x1080 IPS display. The smartphone also features 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a 13MP rear camera with an f1.8 aperture lens, and a 5MP front-facing camera with an 84-degree lens. And as we mentioned above, it’s capable of LTE and promises 50Mbps up and 150Mbps down; 802.11ac WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0 are also on board.

The big fella of Lenovo’s new smartphone lineup is the S930 ($319), which some would call a “phablet” at 6 inches. The display offers a resolution of 1280x720, and the front of the device has dual front-facing speakers with Dolby Digital Plus technology. The S930 has Android 4.2 on board and runs a quad-core MediaTek 6582 (1.3GHz) processor. Other features include 1Gb of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, and 8MP rear- and 1.6MP front-facing cameras.

Lenovo bills the 4.7-inch S650 ($229) as a compact version of the S930 (wow, when did 4.7 inches become “compact”?), and indeed the two devices share most of the same specs. The S650 lacks the front-facing speakers, the smaller display has a 960x540 resolution, and the front camera is just 0.3MP. Otherwise, the guts are more or less the same.

A third phone with the same MediaTek processor, the A859 ($219), offers a 5-inch display with a 1280x720 resolution. The device also runs Android 4.2 and has 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, and the rear- and front cameras are 8MP and 1.3MP, respectively. The unit also offers dual-SIM capabilities, WiFi, 3G, and Bluetooth 3.0 HS.

Although the Vibe Z won’t be out until February, the S-series phones and the A859 are available immediately.
