Lenovo Makes Mobile Play With 2-in-1 VIBE Shot Camera Phone, A7000 Smartphone, And Pocket Projector
You expect the usual names like HTC and Samsung to make a splash at Mobile World Congress, but Lenovo? Part of the company's stated strategy going forward is to become a leader in smartphones and tablets. Following yesterday's unveiling of three affordable slates, Lenovo today is introducing a pair of new smartphones and a tiny projector.
The first is the VIBE Shot, Lenovo's first smartphone crossover device, or 2-in-1 camera phone, if you prefer to call it that. What Lenovo means by that is the VIBE Shot is intended to be a "fabulous camera" for shutterbugs and a "performance-laden" smartphone in the same package.
On the photography side, the VIBE Shot boats a 16-megapixel rear camera with a six-piece modular lens. It has a full-frame 16:9 low-light sensor for shooting images in dark locations, along with a tricolor flash that allows photo luminosity to adjust itself automatically based on ambient light conditions. Other tidbits include optical image stabilization, infrared focus that's twice as fast as normal autofocus, a physical shutter button, and both Smart and Pro presets.
As for being a phone, the VIBE Shot brings to the tablet a 5-inch Full HD 1080p IPS display powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 1.7GHz Octa-Core processor and 3GB of RAM. It also features 32GB of interal storage, a microSD card slot, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1 LE, 8MP front camera, 2,900mAh non-removable battery, and Android 5.0 Lollipop.
Moving on to the the A7000, this is Lenovo's big size smartphone with a 5.5-inch HD (1280x720) IPS display and apparently the first to feature Dolby Atmos technology. Other specs include a MediaTek 1.5TGHz Ture8Core CPU, 2GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, dual SIM support, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, 8MP rear camera, 2MP front camera, 2,900mAh removable battery, and Android 5.0 Lollipop.
Rounding out Lenovo's mobile expansion is the introduction of the Lenovo Pocket Projector. You can snap the projector onto a compatible Android device to supersize movies, photos, business presentations, or whatever -- it projects content up to 110 inches on any wall or surface in low light conditions.
It has a native resolution of 854x480, 1,000:1 contrast ratio, 50 lumens brightness, DLNA and Miracast support, microSD card slot, two built-in speakers, 90 degrees of rotation, and up to 2.5 hours of battery life.
The VIBE Shot will be available in June "where Lenovo smartphones are sold" starting at $349; the A7000 will be available in March starting at $169; and the Pocket Projector will be available worldwide in March starting at $199.
