Lenovo has pulled the wraps off a new mobile professional workstation: the ThinkPad P52. The laptop is Lenovo’s very first VR-Ready Certified mobile workstation that is available in a relatively compact 15-inch chassis.

Depending on your computing needs, you can select from either 8th generation Intel Xeon or Core i7 hexa-core processors, which can support up to 128GB of DDR4 memory (ECC modules up to 16GB, non-ECC modules up to 32GB). Storage won’t be a concern for those that choose to fully max out SSD and HDD options, as the ThinkPad P52 internally supports up to 6GB. On the graphics front, Lenovo has outfitted the ThinkPad P52 with NVIDIA’s new Quadro P3200 GPU (which is a Pascal derivative of NVIDIA’s mobile workstation graphics lineup that should drop in on par or a little faster than a GTX 1060).

That Quadro GPU is backed by one of two display options: a 15.6-inch 300 nit panel with a resolution of 1920x1080 (72 percent NTSC) or a 15.6-inch 400 nit 4K panel (100 percent Adobe RGB).

Lenovo has outfitted this mobile workstation beast with plenty of connectivity options, including 3 USB 3.1 (Type-A) ports, 2 Thunderbolt 3 (USB Type-C) ports, HDMI 2.0, miniDP, an SD reader, GbE and a Smart Card reader. Wireless duties are handled by an Intel 9560 802.11ac + Bluetooth 5.0 combo card, and you can even select an optional Category 9 LTE modem for on-the-go wireless connectivity. On the security front, there’s ThinkShutter (which allows you to physically cover the webcam), an IR camera, TPM 2.0 and a fingerprint reader.

The ThinkPad P52 weighs in a 5.4 pounds and comes with a rather large 90 WHr battery.

Unfortunately, Lenovo hasn’t provided pricing yet for the ThinkPad P52, but it does say that it will be available later this month.
