LG Announces 38-inch Curved UltraWide Monitor With Built-in Bluetooth Speakers, USB-C
It seems hard to believe now, but for a long time the monitor market was stuck in a rut without any kind of real innovation taking place. That started to change with 4K Ultra HD gained steam, and monitor makers have been using the opportunity to release new models with fancy new features. Just this week alone we've seen Samsung launch a trio of promising Quantum Dot displays and now LG offering up three new models of its own, including one with Google Cast built into it.
That's the 34UM79M, a 34-inch UltraWide flat panel display with a 21:9 aspect ratio. That gives you a bunch of vertical space to work with, which is great for multitasking.
"Multitasking is also made easier with the Split Screen 2.0 feature, which offers 14 preset layouts that can be resized to the user's preference, allowing users to easily work in multiple programs simultaneously or enjoy watching content in a different window while they're working," LG says.
It's also suitable for streaming movies, which is made easier with Google Cast integrated into the display. Plus it uses an In-Plane Switching (IPS) panel for more accurate color reproduction and wider viewing angles (compared to TN). An extremely thin bezel rounds out the package.
Among LG's other two displays is what it claims is the world's largest UltraWide monitor, the 38-inch 38UC99 with a curved IPS panel and Quad HD+ (2840x1600) resolution. LG says this one covers 99 percent of the sRGB color space, making it suitable for anyone who works with photography or video.
The 38UC99 is also the first UltraWide monitor to feature a USB Type-C port. Granted, the market isn't flush with USB Type-C devices, but if there's such a thing as future-proofing, this is one way of going about it. The monitor even includes two 10W Bluetooth compatible speakers.
LG didn't forget about gamers. The third monitor LG announced is the 34UC79G, a 34-inch solution with a curved panel and 21:9 aspect ratio. This one also uses an IPS screen, which it combines with a 144Hz refresh rate and AMD FreeSync support for smooth game play.
The 38UC99 will debut first in mid-September for $1,499, followed by the 34UC79G in mid-October for $699 and the 34UM79M in mid-November for $599.
