LG G6 Hands-On Preview: Compact And Gorgeous 5.7-inch QHD+ Display, Dual Rear Cameras And Snapdragon 821
That display is the main focal point of the G6, and it has a rather unorthodox 18:9 screen ratio, which LG says allows the device to fit better in your hand. The thin bezels of the new flagship also give the LG G6 an 80 percent screen to body ratio. LG notes the aspect ratio is being adopted as a universal format from the likes of film studios and content providers like Netflix, such that movie watching on the G6 could offer an experience much closer to the way the cinematographer intended. But the aspect ratio isn’t the only intriguing thing about the display: LG has also given the screen rounded corners, which is a rather nice touch that we’ve previously seen with the Xiaomi Mi MIX. This is also a feature that helps the device stand-up to corner drops a bit better as well.
More importantly, LG is moving past the QHD resolution that has become commonplace with today’s flagship Android smartphones and has moved up a notch to QHD+ (2880x1440), which works out to 564 ppi.
As was previously rumored, you won’t find Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 processor inside the G6. However, in its place you’ll find last year’s flagship Qualcomm SoC, the Snapdragon 821. While LG may not have bragging rights when it comes to outright performance, the Snapdragon 821 is certainly no slouch — even in 2017.
Complementing the Snapdragon 821 is 4GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage and a microSD slot which can accommodate up to additional 2TB of storage. LG has also outfitted the G6 with dual 13MP rear cameras: both a wide (F2.4 / 125°) and standard (F1.8 / 71°) shooter with optical image stabilization.
You’ll be able to capture panoramic shots with the wide-angle lens, while the standard camera lens’ optical image stabilization should help you to better capture high-detail shots at a moment’s notice. You can also smoothly zoom in your subject as the G6 deftly switches between the two rear cameras. For selfie duties, you’ll find a 5MP wide-angle lens.
Other interesting items of note include a 3,300 mAh battery, Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0, USB-C connectivity, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, and a fingerprint sensor. The LG G6 is MIL-STD-810 tested, and has an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. The G6 is also the first non-Google smartphone to come with the voice-activated Google Assistant baked right into the OS (which is Android 7.0, BTW).

Alongside the Google Pixel XL, the LG G6 has a dramatically more efficient footprint and a much larger display, comparably. It's a much taller, but slightly narrower display that handles really well for such a large device.
The LG G6 launches next month and will be available in Ice Platinum, Mystic White, Astro Black. Pricing has yet to be disclosed.
