LG G6 Will Reportedly Feature Google Assistant And Water-Resistant Unibody

The LG G6 isn’t expected to officially be unveiled until MWC 2017 in Barcelona next month, but LG has already starting dropping hints on what to expect. But it isn’t just LG, insiders are also leaking information on the G6 including the latest revelation that it will be the first non-Pixel smartphone to come with the Google Assistant built-in.

If you recall, the Google Assistant was introduced with the Google Pixel and Pixel XL flagship Android 7.0 Nougat smartphones in the fall of 2016. The Google Assistant use artificial intelligence (AI), which learns more about you as you use it and interacts in essence like a chatbot. It can also present information to you in useful ways (including your upcoming schedule) or make reservations for dinner to celebrate your anniversary. Think of it as mashup between Siri and Alexa, and you’re part-way there.

LG was reportedly interested in integrating Alexa into the G6 (like what Huawei did with the Mate 9), but didn’t feel that interface was quite up to snuff at this point. So, it instead forged a deeper relationship with Google.

In other G6 news, it has also been reported that by ditching the clunky modular system of the G5 and adopting a unibody construction, the G6 will now be water-resistant (like the cross-town competitors from Samsung).

The LG G6 will arrive to the market with an unorthodox 5.7-inch display that features a 2:1 ratio instead of the more common 16:9. It’s also reported the smartphone will ship with last year’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SoC instead of the newer 10-nanometer Snapdragon 835. As we learned earlier this week, LG finds itself in this predicament because Samsung gobbled up nearly all of the initial production run of the Snapdragon 835 for its upcoming Galaxy S8 launch.
