LG Q6 Announced With 18:9 Bezel-less Display And Snapdragon 435 SoC

Following weeks of rumors and speculation, LG has come out and officially announced the Q6, a lower-end handset that is part of the South Korean electronics maker's new Q series. Also known online as the G6 Mini, an unofficial designation that reflects the similarities between the new Q6 and LG's high-end G6, LG's aim with the Q6 is to offer many of the premium features found on its other smartphones at a more competitive price.

The leaked info leading up to the official unveiling of the Q6 was mostly spot on. LG's newest handset is equipped with a 5.5-inch Full HD+ FullVision display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. The "FullVision" designation is a marketing term to denote a near bezel-less display with the unique aspect ratio.

"FullVision enables a wider display, so that you can see more and do more, and it is nicely complemented by the 18:9 aspect ratio. The 18:9 aspect ratio eliminates the need for the cropping and manipulating of film, so that you can view content as it was originally composed by movie directors. What’s more, immersive mode hides the navigation and status bar, so that your viewing experience remains uninterrupted," LG explains.

The display is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 435 processor and up to 4GB of RAM. There are three variants of the Q6, including the Q6α (2GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in storage), Q6 (3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage), and Q6+ (4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage).

All three models feature a 5-megapixel wide-angle front camera and a 13-megapixel standard angle rear camera with no camera bump. Other shared features in 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC support, SUB Type-B 2.0 connectivity, 4G LTE support, an embedded 3,000 mAh battery, and Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box.

We were not sure if LG would be releasing the Q6 worldwide, but that is indeed the case. LG said the Q6 will go on sale in key markets in Asia next month, followed by a wider roll out to Europe, Latin America, and North America sometime after. There was no mention of price.
