LG Ships 55" and 65" 4K HDTVs For $6000 And Up

Just in case you had any lingering doubt that 4K HDTVs would be everywhere in a matter of months, LG has followed Samsung and Sony by introducing a range of its own. LG Electronics' newest Ultra HD TV series (model LA9700), which is available in 65- and 55-inch class sizes, went on sale for the first time in the U.S. this week. The price? $8000 for the big one, and $6000 for the smaller one. According to LG, these are the first Ultra HD sets in these sizes with "full-backlit LED screens."

Each one also includes a 4.1-channel, 50-watt sound system via a sliding speaker bar. With LG's NANO technology, LED particles are dispersed across a thin film behind the screen enabling detailed local dimming that provides superior picture control by allowing discrete sections of the LED array to be individually controlled, based on the picture. Even before so-called "4K" content is widely available, LG's powerful Tru-Ultra HD engine upscales things to fit nicely on the native 3840 x 2160 resolution.

Not cheap, but are you planning on being an early 4K adopter?
