LG Launches Software Upgrade Center To Speed Up Android Updates

LG has announced that it is opening a new Software Upgrade Center in South Korea. This will be its first facility of this type and the goal is to provide customers globally with faster, timelier smartphone OS and software updates. Faster Android updates have been one of the major reasons that Android fans choose Google's devices over other competing products.

LG has located the new center on a campus in Magok-dong, western Seoul. The software center will be charged with regular OS updates for LG smartphones and for ensuring a consistent user experience on LG devices. The Upgrade Center will continuously test stability and compatibility between software and hardware after updates. That should mean a more stable and user-friendly device with discovered bugs being squashed faster.

LG says that the creation of the center will allow it to roll out OS updates faster in all areas where LG smartphones are available. LG says that despite the Software Upgrade Center being located in South Korea, all customers around the world will receive the same level of quality service. One of the first tasks for the center will be to roll out Android Oreo for the LG G6. That update is expected to land later this month starting in Korea before heading to other markets.

"Aligning after-sales support with customers' needs is a top priority at LG," said Mr. Jo Seong-jin, CEO of LG Electronics. "Stable and consistent upgrades will demonstrate to our customers that LG smartphones have long and reliable lifespans."
