LG Debuts Sweet UltraGear Nano 1ms 38-inch 175Hz HDR Gaming Monitor
Perhaps its most impressive spec is that this is the world's first IPS monitor with a response time of just 1ms (GtG). That puts the panel on level footing with TN panels, which are known for their ultra-fast response times. If that wasn't enough, LG says that the display panel has a maximum (standard) refresh rate of 144Hz, but it can be overclocked to a dizzying 175Hz.
The 38GL950G has a resolution of 3840x1600 (21:9 aspect ratio) and a brightness rating of 450 nits. Other features include full NVIDIA G-SYNC support and it is DisplayHDR 400 certified. Since this is a high-end gaming monitor, you won't be too surprised to learn that LG has included Sphere Lighting 2.0, which adds RGB lights to the back of the display.
This 38-inch gaming display will be joined by a smaller 27-inch counterpart, the 27GL850. This monitor also has refresh rates that top out at 144Hz, but overclocking to 175Hz is not supported. The resolution also takes a hit, coming in at 2560x1440. LG is only saying that the 27GL850 is "G-SYNC compatible" and that it has a typical brightness rating of 350 nits. As for HDR, the 27-inch variant is only spec'd for HDR10 and you miss out on the RGB light show.
One place where the 27-inch monitor does have a leg-up on its larger counterpart is the inclusion of dual HDMI ports instead of a single HDMI connection. Both feature a single DisplayPort connection along with gamer-centric LG-specific features like Black Stabilizer, Dynamic Action Sync, and Crosshair.
Preorders for the 27-inch monitor open up on July 1st, but LG hasn't said anything about availability for the larger 38-inch model at this time. Pricing has not yet been announced for either monitor.
