LG V20 Android 7.0 Nougat Flagship Arrives With Snapdragon 820, Removable Battery
At long last, LG's latest flagship V20 phone is here with Google's deliciously new Android 7.0 Nougat in tow. It's a notable release not just because its another high-end handset from the South Korean electronics maker, but for its place in history as the introductory Android 7.0 device, a distinction many assumed would belong to a Nexus gadget.
The LG V20 is a premium handset powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 processor with X12 LTE. It has a 5.7-inch QHD (2560x1440) IPS main display and, as often rumored leading up to its launch, a secondary IPS Quantum display with a 160x1040 resolution. The secondary display is a carryover from the V10, only here it's twice as bright with a 50 percent larger font size to make glancing at notifications easier on the eyes. That's especially true when utilizing the Expandable Notifications feature—users can tap a button on the secondary display to enlarge notifications.
There's 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM on theLG V20, along with 64GB of built in storage that's expandable via microSD (up to 2TB). It also features a 5-megapixel front camera with F1.9 aperture (120 degrees wide angle), and two rear cameras, one with a 16-megapixel F1.8 aperture (standard angle) lens and another with an 8-megapixl F2.4 aperture (135 degrees wide angle) lens.
Camera performance was a big focus of LG's. In addition to the multiple lenses, there's an Auto Shot function on the front camera that detects faces and snaps photos when the subject is ready and smiling, saving the user a shutter press (which can result in blurry photos). There's also a Hybrid Auto Focus (HAF) feature that utilizes three AF mechanisms, including Laser Detection AF, Phase Detection AF, and Contrast AF, for photos and videos.
"The LG V20 is designed to offer customers a more dynamic experience by building on the most popular video and audio features of the V series," said Juno Cho, president of LG Electronics and Mobile Communications Company. "With the LG V20, we are giving our customers more of everything they love and less of anything they don’t need to set a new standard for premium smartphones."
It also sports modern amenities such as a USB Type-C port, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2 BLE, NFC support, and a fairly large 3,200 mAh removable battery. Yes folks, we said REMOVABLE! Major kudos to LG for going with a premium construction without sacrificing what used to be a standard feature among many non-iPhone devices.
The LG V20 will be available in Korea this month followed by other regions sometime after.
