LG V20 Leak Shows Nougat Flagship Retaining Secondary Ticker Display

LG is planning to formally introduce its V20 handset on September 6, 2016, a notable phone because it will be the first one out of the gate with Google's Android 7.0 (Nougat) platform installed. We've already seen some leaked renders of the handset ahead of its release, and now famed leaker Evan Blass (known by his Twitter handle @evleaks) is showing off what looks to be an official press image of the device, seemingly confirming the presence of a secondary ticker display.

The leaked photo looks similar to the previous renders, only colored in and fleshed out with a home screen showing of Android 7.0. You can make out a speaker grill at the top, along with separate volume up and down buttons on the left-hand side. There's also a blocked out portion on the display itself, perhaps to hide the source of the leak.

At the very top of the screen is where you see the secondary display. This is something LG appears to be carrying over from last year's V10 model. Assuming the implementation is the same, the secondary display on the V20 will stay on even when the main display is turned off and show things like notifications, widgets, and so forth.

The big unknown here is whether or not the V20 will be a modular phone. A clue may be found by looking at the bottom. You'll notice that the bottom bezel runs down a little further than what was seen in previous renders in order to accommodate the "LG" branding. What's not seen in the purported press image is a button on either side to suggest that the bottom pops off.

LG's overall design for the V20 is a little bland, though the phone's rumored spec sheet isn't. It's expected the V20 will ship with a 5.5-inch or 5.7-inch 2560x1440 Quad HD display powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and 4GB of RAM. There's also talk of there being 64GB of internal storage, 20MP dual-lens rear-facing camera, and 8MP front-facing camera.
