LG V30S ThinQ Brings 6GB Of RAM And AI Empowered Camera Tech

There's a lot to love about Mobile World Congress, including seeing how phone makers will improve upon their previous designs. Take LG's new V30S ThinQ, for example. When we took a look at the V30 a couple of months ago, we walked away impressed enough to label the phone an Editor's Choice. It might have been a little pricey, but pretty much everything else made up for it.

While this phone is the first to carry the "ThinQ" moniker, it's going to be one that's shared by a great deal of LG's total portfolio in the future, including home appliances. With this first move, LG wants to make AI accessible to many more people, and to make it as approachable as possible.

The AI on this phone encompass two areas: the camera, and voice. On the camera side, AI CAM, QLens, and Bright Mode are features complementary to one another that allows novice and experienced shooters alike to capture footage or photos they are thrilled about. When taking a shot, AI CAM will analyze a scene and suggest the optimal shooting mode from eight categories (pet, person, etc), with each mode being tuned for that respective purpose. QLens enhances image recognition, allowing objects to be detected quicker, including the modest QR code.

For audio, Voice AI allows you to run apps or change settings through only your voice, which sounds like a great step forward. LG says that this feature works "alongside" Google Assistant, but that it can do more for you than it can, at least on the system level. Saying "screenshot" sounds a lot easier than typing it in, or trying to remember where that particular setting is stored.

Other highlights of the V30S ThinQ include a 6-inch frame with 1440p resolution (538ppi), a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, 6GB of RAM standard, up to 256GB of storage on the V30S+ model, 16 MP rear camera (5MP front), a 3,300mAh battery, and other familiar niceties: Bluetooth 5, NFC, and 802.11ac Wi-Fi. Android 8.0 Oreo ships out-of-the-box, and the phone will charge quickly with Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3 technology.
