LG Watch Urbane Brings Chic Looks And All-Metal Body To Android Wear

Good, Better, Best? LG underwhelmed most with its first entry into the Android Wear game: the G Watch. While it was a competent smartwatch, it was far from stylish and looked more like a factory prototype than something that you’d actually want to wear on your wrist. The company stepped up its game with the G Watch R, which brought a lot more style to the table a fully circular watch face (unlike the Motorola Moto 360, with its “flat tire” display). And now, LG is looking to up the ante even further and steel a bit of thunder from Apple’s upcoming premium Apple Watch offering with the Watch Urbane.

The Watch Urbane is LG’s first all-metal Android Wear smartwatch and is a clear evolution of the G Watch R when it come to styling. But while the G Watch R is more suited for “sport active” duty, LG is aiming for a more luxury feel with the Watch Urbane. Its metal body will be available in both silver and gold finishes, each coming with a complementing leather band (black on the silver model, brown on the gold model). If the included watch bands aren’t too your liking, you can swap them out for any 22mm alternative that betters suits your tastes.

As for the innards, LG isn’t straying from what we’ve already seen in the G Watch and the G Watch R. That means you’re looking at a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor, 4GB of internal storage, 1.3-inch P-OLED display (320x320), 410 mAh battery, heart rate sensor, and IP67 dust/water resistance.

“The LG Watch Urbane’s classic design and smart features make it the perfect smartwatch to complement our G Watch and G Watch R, which were designed as more casual and active devices,” said Juno Cho, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “LG Watch Urbane is an important part of our strategy to develop wearable devices that are worn and viewed as everyday accessories, not electronic gadgets.”

LG is being rather tight-lipped with pricing and availability at this point, but we expect to hear more on both fronts at the Mobile World Congress next month in Barcelona, Spain.
