LG's WebOS 2.0 Smart TVs To Debut At CES 2015 With Improved UI Performance

LG is planning to showcase a new line of smart TVs with a newer version of webOS that's supposed to increase the user experience with a boot time that's been reduced by 60 percent and several other upgrades. According to LG, webOS 2.0 sports a "long list of improvements," such as up to 70 percent faster load times when switching from the smart TV home screen to applications like YouTube.

"With the newest features introduced in webOS 2.0, the overall user experience has become even simpler, easier and more intuitive," said In-kyu Lee, senior vice president and head of the TV and monitor division at the LG Electronics Home Entertainment Company. "The webOS platform is a great example of our commitment to taking a leadership role in the next generation TV market with a truly innovative Smart TV solution."

It's nice to see webOS actively thrive in the hands of LG after it was fumbled so badly by Hewlett-Packard not all that long ago. LG said it sold 1 million smart TVs based on webOS in the first two months after its introduction earlier this year, and has now notched more than 5 million units sales in just eight months.

LG is also working with content providers like Amazon and Netflix to ensure that LG TV owners have a wide range of viewing options in 4K Ultra HD. There's not a long list of 4K content available currently, though the catalog of titles is growing.
