Linksys unveiled its Velop Tri-Band AC2200 routers not long ago in one, two, and three packs. Those routers are designed to create a mesh network to keep people connected wherever they may be in their home. Today a new subscription service has been announced that is launching first on the Velop routers called Linksys Aware.

Linksys Aware is dubbed a "first-of-its-kind" subscription service. To use Linksys Aware, you need the Velop Tri-Band AC2200 router and the app that is offered for free on Android and iOS. The new software service provides users with a motion-sensing network that can track people and animals in your home or office down to the size of a mouse without needing additional cameras or sensors.

Linksys thinks that the new service will change the way that people tap into the capability of their routers. Linksys Aware detects activity via Wi-Fi signals and sends motion alerts to the user via the Linksys App when activity occurs. Users can turn the motion alerts on and off or snooze them. The motion sensitivity level can be adjusted to only alert for people or to alert for small pets.

Linksys says that the system detects movement in the entire home and says that could help with the care of the elderly remotely. Historical data is saved for up to 60 days and can be viewed hourly, daily, and weekly for insights. Linksys Aware is part of the Linksys Shield subscription software portfolio.

That service debuted earlier this year and can block unwanted content and provide more security for devices connected to the network. Linksys Aware is available today as a firmware update and app. It's free for the first 90 days and then costs $2.99 monthly or $24.99 yearly.
