Livestream Event Invite From Motorola Hints Arrival Of Next-Gen Moto 360 Smartwatch, New Moto X
Grab yourself a Sharpie, pop the cap off, and circle July 28 on your calendar. Oh, and don't forget to set your alarm if you're the type that likes to sleep in. At 9 AM Eastern (a bright and early 6 AM Pacific), Motorola will host a livestream event in which it will likely announce a new Moto 360 smartwatch, and possibly new Moto X and Moto G smartphones as well.
How do we know this? Motorola has been sending members of the press an invitation to the livestream event with the tagline, "You relationship status is about to change." The invitation also contains a link to a HelloMoto landing page that further plays up the relationship angle.
"Yes. We're in a relationship with our phone," Motorola states. "We feel lost without it. We trust them with our most personal questions, photos, stories, and secrets. They never leave our side. But shouldn't all that care and devotion you show be returned? A better mobile relationship is on the way."
You can sign up for notifications to "learn about your perfect moto match" and be "the first to hear about how we're changing things for the better." Until then, we're left to speculate based on the evidence that exists.
The reason we think a second generation Moto 360 is in the works is because Best Buy recently slashed $100 off the price of the original model. That's a pretty hefty savings for what was the best selling Android Wear smartwatch of 2014.
There have also been renders of a supposed second generation Moto 360 prototype. We don't want to put too much stock in such a thing, but if they do turn out to be accurate, you can expect the next Moto 360 smartwatch to sport a fully circular 'flat tire' display.
Keeping in mind that it takes two to tango, rumblings of a third generation Moto X smartphone have also hit the web. Priors rumors suggest there will be two versions -- one with a 5.2-inch display and larger model with a 5.7-inch screen.
While nothing is yet official, announcing a smartphone and smartwatch would play right into the relationship angle that Motorola's pushing so hard. Whether or not that's the case, we'll have to wait a couple weeks to find out.
