Logitech Debuts MX Vertical Mouse With A New Approach To Ergonomics

For anyone who sits in front of a PC for extended periods of time, ergonomics is an important consideration, not just for comfort but also to avoid lingering issues like carpal tunnel syndrome. Dealing with that sort of thing is not fun. Logitech is doing its part. The peripheral maker developed a new mouse that it says i the most advanced ergonomic rodent on the planet, the MX Vertical.

Logitech's claim is rooted in science, and while the MX Vertical might look funky to some, the company is adamant that there is a real purpose behind the non-traditional design.

"Scientifically tested and ergonomist approved, MX Vertical is designed with a natural handshake position and a 57-degree vertical angle to reduce forearm strain and wrist pressure and muscular activity by up to 10 percent compared to a standard mouse. The comfort form is designed to fit a variety of hand shapes and sizes, while the textured rubber surface and thumb rest ensure a solid and natural grip," Logitech explains.

The MX Vertical is Logitech's first stab at a vertical rodent. Logitech was inspired by statistics shared by Forrester, which notes that over half (57 percent) of computer users experience pain and discomfort when using their PC, and 12 percent are uncomfortable on a daily basis.

"Those of us who use computers on a regular basis need a credible solution that allows us to stay focused on our work, rather than distracted by any sort of pain. That’s why we decided to make our first, vertical ergonomic mouse solution," Logitech explains.

Beyond the ergonomics, the MX Vertical sports a 4,000 DPI sensor that is adjustable down to 400 DPI, in 50 DPI increments. It also has four customizable buttons, though that is counting the DPI button on the side and scroll wheel on top. The limited button selection likely rules the MX Vertical out for serious gamers, though it does not appear Logitech is targeting that demographic anyway.

The MX Vertical is a wireless rodent with a wireless range of up to 10 meters. It comes with a unifying receiver than can also be paired with up to two other Logitech devices, and a USB-C charging cable (USB-A to USB-C). That means you can connect the MX Vertical in three different ways—by unifying receiving, through Bluetooth, or connect via cable.

Logitech is taking pre-orders for the MX Vertical now, priced at $99.99.
