Logitech Outs Next-Gen Video Conferencing Tech for Businesses
The video chatting and collaboration aspects of unified communications (UC) are a big deal in the enterprise as companies routinely work with far-flung companies and employ remote workers in droves; for that matter, large companies rely on it as employees working in separate buildings or on different floors need to collaborate.
Logitech is looking to make the video experience better to use and also easier to deploy with new webcam technology, full HD 1080p video at 30fps (thanks to a collaboration with Skype). The new technology keeps the H.264 video encoding in the camera itself, thus avoiding straining the CPU. As a result, users can keep programs open (such as presentation software) while videoconferencing. Further, IT departments can deploy the solution on older or slower computers, which helps increase the lifecycle of company machines.

Logitech is relying on the plug-and-play USB Video Class (UVB) standard, which requires no drivers, to keep installation as easy and glitch-free as possible.
The first webcam equipped with the new technology will be the recently-announced Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920, which features a Carl Zeiss lens, 20-step autofocus, and a 78-degree viewing angle. For an enhanced audio/visual experience, the C920 will have dual microphones and will employ Logitech’s RightLight 2 technology in low light situations.
