Maxis Makes "Tough Decision" to Delay SimCity for Mac Until August

Would-be mayors gaming on an Apple Mac were promised a version of SimCity for their platform of choice on June 11, though as it goes with politics (and game release dates), you can't always believe what you hear. If you had hopes of spending your summer vacation playing SimCity on your Mac, you'll have to resort to plan B, if you have one, because Maxis made the decision to move the release date to August. Apparently it wasn't an easy one to make.

"We have made this tough decision because we do not believe it is ready for prime time yet," Maxis stated in a blog post. "We want to ensure the Mac is a great experience for our players and that is why we are taking more time."

That's too bad for Mac fans, though if you're rocking a Windows-based PC, Maxis said it's also hard at work making a series of multiplier and multi-city tweaks and fixes that will be available in Update 5 due out in a couple of weeks. It will include several changes and improvements, including new Historic Price charts for Global Market resources that will be available from the SimCity World button in the main menu.

None of that matters to Mac users, however, who just want to be able to play the game. As a token of Maxis' appreciation for being patient, the developer said it is extending the availability of the SimCity Launch Park (released in Update 4) to all players who purchased the Mac version.

"Now you, too, can launch a Llama balloon. Because who wouldn't want to do that? Thanks again for your patience and understanding. See you in August!," Maxis said.
