McLaren 720S Spider Delivers 710 Horsepower And 200 MPH Open Air Motoring Nirvana
Well, I found my next car, now I just need a windfall of cash and a 'money is no object' attitude. When that time comes, I have every intention of buying a McLaren 720S Spider, the newest supercar from the British automotive company. It combines ridiculous power and speed with an open-top design (similar to Ferrari's 488 Pista Spider), making it one heck of a drool-worthy convertible.

See that? Flewitt is pitching this as a daily driver, so how could it not be on my short list of desired vehicles? The McLaren 720S Spider flexes a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that produces 710 horsepower and 568 pounds/foot of torque. It can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 2.8 seconds, and hit 124 mph from a dead stop in just 7.9 seconds. Top speed checks in at 212 mph, or just slightly lower with the roof down—202 mph.
It's faster than my Chevy Sonic, in other words. The McLaren 720S Spider is also designed very differently, natrually. It's built around a carbon fiber structure, as are all McLaren cars, with a rear upper section that is unique to this particular model. And of course it sports a retractable hard top when you want a gust of wind.
The addition of a hard top comes at the expense of weight, though not a whole lot—the McLaren 720S Spider is only 108 pounds heavier than the 720S Coupe. Otherwise, the engine is exactly the same. The convertible also features the same 'eye sockets' in the front fenders, and double-skinned dihedral doors.
McLaren's latest automobile isn't lacking in creature comforts, either. The company says it recalibrated its dual-zone climate control and air conditioning system for the 720S Spider, which can detect if the hard top is up or down and adjust things accordingly. It also features an entertainment system with an 8-inch high resolution display.
