Mercedes-AMG GT Concept Hybrid Sedan Dazzles With 805HP And Curvy Good Looks

The partnership between Mercedes-Benz and AMG dates back 50 years. To celebrate the occasion, the two developed a new model car, the Mercedes-AMG GT Concept. It's a sexy four-dour coupe—basically a four-door version of the AMG GT sports car—and to say it is a head turner is an understatement. It is more of a head spinner, which is exactly what the automakers were going for.

"The AMG GT Concept embodies the most extreme expression of our design idiom and underlines the autonomous profile of AMG as a performance brand," said Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer, Daimler AG. "Through ideal proportions it creates a pure design with emphasis on its surfaces, featuring sensuous shapes, and is hot and cool at the same time."


While current AMG GT automobiles are all gas-powered, the GT concept features a hybrid powertrain that combines a handcrafted AMG 4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with an additional electric motor. Together the two motors offer up a crazy amount of horsepower—805 HP, to be exact. On that track, that translates into a 0-60 miles per hour time of less than three seconds. That's supercar performance, folks.

The AMG GT can be driven purely on the electric motor, though there is no mention of what kind of range motorists can expect. Drivers can also opt for just the combustion engine, and of course there is the option to tap into both for what Mercedes-AMG calls an "optimal combination" for the hybrid vehicle.


"The AMG GT Concept, like the AMG Hypercar, which we are presenting at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt, illustrates how we are defining performance of the future at AMG. Impressive driving dynamics coupled with high efficiency, resulting from an innovative drive system tailored specifically to the vehicle segment – that is ‘Future Performance’ made by AMG," said Tobias Moers, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.

More than just a muscle car, the GT concept is suitable for everyday use with a large tailgate, luggage compartment, and a luxurious interior. That is, if you have the funds to bring one of these home. There's no word on price, though expect it to be in six-figure territory.
