Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet Concept EV Delivers Scintillating Shock And Awe At Pebble Beach
Each year when the Pebble Beach Concours d'Élégance rolls around you can count on some extremely nice classic cars being on display that are often in better condition than they were new. And you can also count on modern cars debuting at the show (like the BMW Concept Z4) that might appeal to the well-heeled crowd that enjoys the Pebble Beach show. This year Mercedes-Benz showed off an incredibly luxurious car called the Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet.
Mercedes-Maybach says the car "with its sensual, emotionally appealing design and innovative technical concept solutions, defines the ultimate in luxury of the future. At the same time, the two-seater model pays homage to the glorious "automotive haute couture" of hand-finished, exclusive cabriolets. The luxury convertible looks more like a high-end yacht than a car and is designed to hold two people in luxury. Aside from luxury and high style, the car is also green designed from the ground up as an electric car. The drivetrain has an output of 550 kW, which is about 737 hp. A shallow underfloor battery leaves space for passengers and promises a range of over 200 miles per charge according to the EPA.
Other than having an impressive range, the EV boasts AWD with four compact magnet synchronous electric motors. The output of 737 hp allows for acceleration of 0-100 km/h in under four seconds with a top speed limited to 250 kilometers per hour or about 155 mph. Quick charge system, which is based on the CCS standard, allows the EV to recharge to 100 km range in five minutes.
Before the Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet rolls onto the green at Pebble Beach, the car will make its official premiere at Monterey Car week between August 15 and 20; the Pebble Beach Concours d'Élégance kicks off on August 20. As you might expect a luxury automaker to do, Mercedes-Maybach uses superfluous language to describe the car, "The curved basic body of the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet boasts a sporty, stretched design which is characterised by powerful structural elements in conjunction with the sharp feature line. This side feature line defines the upper vehicle body, from the radiator grille across the entire length of the vehicle through to the rear."
