MetroPCS Gains Unlimited Music Streaming And ‘Data Optimizer’ 480p Video Streaming

T-Mobile's flagship prepaid brand, MetroPCS, is rolling out a few new updates that will help customers stay under their data cap. One of those updates is a new Music Unlimited initiative that allows customers on qualifying plans to stream all the music they want from any of 33 streaming services without it counting against their data allotment.

Among the list of participants is a combination of big and lesser known services, everything from Apple Music, Pandora, Spotify, and Google Music to Digitally Imported, Saavn, BandCamp, and Tidal Music, to name just a few of the nearly three dozen available services.

The second way MetroPCS is planning to help customers make the most of their data plans is by reducing the quality of video streams to 480p. It's part of what MetroPCS is calling Data Maximizer, which the company is pitching as a way to watch up to three times more streaming video before using the same amount of data.

"Once again we are setting MetroPCS apart from the rest of the pack in ways that no one else will," said John Legere, president and CEO of T-Mobile U.S. "MetroPCS is the #1 brand in prepaid because we keep giving customers more of what they want, and today that means adding Music Unlimited and Data Maximizer to the list! Their data will last longer than ever before without ridiculous penalty fees or trickery!"

Finally, MetroPCS is beefing up its data plans by raising the cap on its most popular plans. They consist of the following:

  • $25 / month – Unlimited talk, text & data with 1GB of 4G LTE data for each line, with Data Maximizer
  • $35 / month – Unlimited talk, text & data with 3GB of 4G LTE data for each line (up from 2GB), now with Music Unlimited, Data Maximizer
  • $45 / month – Unlimited talk, text & data with 5GB of 4G LTE data for each line (up from 4GB), now with Music Unlimited, Data Maximizer
  • $55 / month – Unlimited talk, text and 4G LTE data on your smartphone + 8GB of Mobile Hotspot tethering for each line (up from 6GB), now with Music Unlimited, Data Maximizer

The new caps and features will go into effect starting November 19, 2015.
