Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 Debuts With Snapdragon 835 And Bezel-Less Ceramic Unibody
It appears to be both a good day and a bad day for Xiaomi fans. The Mi Mix 2 smartphone launched today at 2 p.m. CST (China Standard Time). The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 smartphone launched right on schedule and details gleaned from the Chinese launch presentation are now available. The specifications that the device has might be a disappointment to some fans out there. A bit over a week ago we talked about Xiaomi's plans to launch the device on September 11 and noted that rumors suggested that the smartphone would be powered by the Snapdragon 836 processor.
One notable deviation from rumors earlier this month is that the processor running the show is called out as a Snapdragon 835 paired with 8GB of RAM for the Special Edition; there will also be a standard edition as well with 6GB of RAM. The smartphone has a 5.99-inch 18:9 aspect ratio screen, rumors had previously tipped that screen to be a 6.2-inch unit.
Xiaomi is putting some nice hardware into the camera of the Mi Mix 2 Special Edition with a Sony IMX386 sensor featuring 1.25nm large pixels. The camera also has 4-axis optical image stabilization and a four-sided curved ceramic unibody. The smartphone also has global LTE support with 6 modes and 43 bands. That should make it a true world phone. Internal storage for the Special Edition is 128GB; the standard edition will come with 64GB, 128GB, or 256GB of storage space.
The smartphone also boasts a bottom bezel that has been reduced by 12 percent and a speaker hidden just above the top of the display. Pricing for the Special Edition is tipped as 4699 RMB or about $720. The standard edition with 64GB of storage is tipped at 3299 RMB ($506), 128GB for 3599 RMB ($550), and the 256GB version is 3999 RMS ($613).
Xiaomi also rolled out a Mi Note 3 packing a 5.5-inch screen, Snapdragon 660 processor, 3,500 mAh battery, and 6GB of RAM. The front camera is a 16MP unit with a 12MP dual lens rear camera with 2x optical zoom and four-axis optical image stabilization. That smartphone sells for 2499 RMB or $383 for 64GB, 2899 RMB or $445 for 128GB, and 2999 RMB or $460 for 128GB.
