There was probably a time in the not too distant past when Microsoft thought it would be a viable contender in the mobile handset market by now. That was before reality slapped the Redmond outfit in the face like a stinky trout, and that reality is that the vast majority of consumers are interested in Android and iOS devices. Where the does that leave Microsoft with its Lumia devices? Microsoft isn't giving up, but it is giving handsets away.
If you purchase a Lumia 950 XL from the Microsoft Store, Microsoft will toss in an unlocked Lumia 950 handset for free. That's a $549 value, a compelling deal if you and a significant other were already interested in the Lumia 950 XL or Lumia 950. The only question is, who gets the larger Lumia 950 XL model and who gets the Lumia 950?
This is a repeat of the same promotion Microsoft ran back in April, which was set to expire on May 1, 2016, or when Microsoft depleted its inventory of allotted handsets. As before, this is again a limited time offer—it's set to expire on June 27, 2016, or when stock of how many handsets Microsoft has earmarked for the promotion runs out, whichever comes first.
