Microsoft Hid A Tiny Halo Easter Egg Inside Every Xbox One X Console
Silicon art is nothing new, though usually you need a mighty strong microscope to see the hidden gems etched at the microscopic level on chips and wafers. That is not the case with Microsoft's powerful Xbox One X console. Anyone who cracks open the chassis will be able to see a special piece of art included on the green printed circuit board in the upper right corner.
The artwork is of a minuscule Master Chief sitting atop a scorpion, sort of in the same vein as a cowboy riding a bucking bronco. This is not a random Easter Egg—Microsoft is paying homage to Halo, a hugely popular game franchise that these days is managed and developed by 343 Industries, a subsidiary of Microsoft Studios, and the Xbox One X's pre-launch codename, Project Scorpio.

The nifty piece of art supposedly appears inside every Xbox One X console, stamped right onto the PCB. To see it in person, you will have to wait until the Xbox One X is released on November 7. The caveat is that opening up your fancy new game console will probably void the warranty, so keep that in mind before you start tossing screws aside to catch a glimpse of Master Chief riding a scorpion.
Microsoft made available a batch of Xbox One X Scorpio Edition consoles for pre-order and claims to have seen record demand, with buyers reserving more consoles in the first five days than any previous Xbox model. Some of those will inevitably end up on eBay and Craigslist, as Microsoft is not planning to make a second batch of the Scorpio Edition SKU.
Regardless of the version, the Xbox One X brings a lot of horsepower to the game console scene. It is outfitted with eight custom AMD x86 CPU cores clocked at 2.3GHz with 4MB of L2 cache, has 40 custom AMD Radeon GPU compute units operating at 1,172MHz, and 12GB of GDDR5 memory pumping data over a 384-bit interface with a maximum memory bandwidth of 326 GB/s.
