Microsoft Identifies Windows 10 Pro Activation Rollback Issue, Promises Quick Fix
Windows 10 is a hot mess right now, depending on your perspective. After rolling back the October 2018 Update for Windows 10 to address a file deletion bug and other quirks, some Windows 10 Pro users this week were being told (incorrectly) that their license was actually for Windows 10 Home, and that they would need to do something about it. Microsoft advised affected users to just ignore the message, and believes it now has a handle on the situation.
It's not clear if the activation issue is somehow related to the October 2018 Update, only that the timing roughly coincides with its release and rollback. Either way, it is yet another annoying issue affecting Windows 10. The good news is, Microsoft claims to have fixed the issue.
"A limited number of customers experienced an activation issue that our engineers have now addressed. Affected customers will see resolution over the next 24 hours as the solution is applied automatically. In the meantime, they can continue to use Windows 10 Pro as usual," Microsoft Senior Director Jeff Jones told ZDNet late last night.
Try going to Settings > Update & security > Activation, and then select Troubleshoot to run the Activation Troubleshooter and seeing if this gets you activated.

For anyone who might still be seeing the issue, Microsoft Senior Program Manager Brandon LeBlanc offered up a tip on Twitter.
"Try going to Settings > Update & security > Activation, and then select Troubleshoot to run the Activation Troubleshooter and seeing if this gets you activated," LeBlanc said.
Microsoft hasn't said exactly why the activation server glitch occurred, and probably won't at this point. Hopefully nobody affected by this actually went out and purchased a Windows 10 Pro license as a result, or downgraded to Windows 10 Home—we haven't heard of any cases where that has happened.
