Microsoft Officially Announces $399 1TB Xbox One With New Wireless Controller

Tell me if you’ve heard this one before: Microsoft has officially announced a brand new Xbox One SKU that includes a larger 1TB HDD and a new wireless controller. We already brought you news on both of these additions, but this is the first time that Microsoft has actually confirmed the new console and controller.

As we previously reported the new 1TB Xbox One will also ship with a “newly designed” Xbox One Wireless Controller which features a built-in 3.5mm headphone jack. “With the updated controller, in addition to the volume and mute controls on gaming headsets, you’ll also have the option to adjust headset volume, mic monitoring, and voice and game audio balance through the Settings menu on your console,” said Microsoft gaming guru Major Nelson.

In addition, Microsoft says that it has improved not only the audio quality pumping through the wireless controller, but has also boosted maximum audio volume so that you can hear every far off explosion in crisp clarity. Other improvements include higher-performing bumpers and wireless firmware updates for the controller (no more plugging it in via a USB cable).

While the new Xbox One Wireless Controller will be included with the 1TB Xbox One, it can also be purchased separately in black, or a new silver and black camouflage scheme with the Xbox One Special Edition Covert Forces Wireless Controller.

The 1TB Xbox One will be available on June 16 for $399. And for a limited time, it will come bundled with a free copy of Halo: The Master Chief Collection. In addition, the “old” 500GB Xbox One has received a permanent price cut to $349 — so no more “limited time” price cuts that come and go on a whim.

1TB Xbox One Console

Microsoft, however, won’t be alone when it comes to 1TB gaming consoles, Sony is also prepping a more capacious version of its best-selling PlayStation 4.
