As we've reported previously, there's been a lot of confusion surrounding Microsoft's next big feature release for Windows 10. Fromquestions surrounding its name, to a last-minute bugthat delayed its release, to uncertainty about its actual arrival date. However, Microsoft today brought some much-needed clarity to the situation -- the Windows 10 April 2018 Update will arrive next week.

In fact, Microsoft is just barely adhering to the release’s namesake, as it will arrive on Monday, April 30th. Previous rumors had suggested that the update would land on May 8th, which is that month's Patch Tuesday

The April 2018 Update is by no means a major overhaul of the Windows 10 operating system, but it does bring some useful feature addition to help make you more productive on a daily basis. Timeline has been added to help you go back and find items that you worked on a few hours ago, or even a few weeks ago. You can even start work on a document with your Android or iOS device and pick up where you left off on your Windows 10 device.

The Microsoft Edge browser, which still hasn't gained much traction in the marketplace, is offering better functionality with the ability to quickly mute/unmute audio playing in a tab. There is a new "clutter-free" printing option for those that still need a hard copy of web content, autofill options have been improved to enhance your shopping experience, and books along with PDFs can go full screen for a more immersive reading experience.

Other new features include Dictation, which allows you to quickly input text with the sound of your voice using the Win+H key combo, and Focus Assist which is much-needed for those that feel that they have information/notification overload when trying to get work done:

Turn on Focus Assist whenever you want to get things done without distractions, like social media or other notifications. Or set it to turn on automatically at certain times during the day when you want focused time. When you finish, you receive a summary of what came through, whether notifications, emails or updates, while you were heads down.

Overall, the Windows 10 April 2018 Update looks to be a solid update for Microsoft’s mainstream operating system, and it of course will be offered for free for all users. So, mark your calendars for next Monday when the release hits Windows Update.
