Microsoft Xbox Game Pass Is Headed To Windows 10 PCs With Over 100 Titles
Microsoft has been making an effort to convince PC gamers that yes, it cares about their platform of choice just as much as it is smitten by Xbox One players. We have seen this with certain additions to Windows 10, such as the new Windows 10 Xbox Game Bar that was pushed out with the May 2019 Update. Taking things a step further, Microsoft is planning to bring its Xbox Game Pass to PC.
Xbox Game Pass is a subscription service that, as of this moment, is exclusive to Xbox players. It runs $9.99 per month (new subscribers can currently sign up for a buck for the first month) and includes unlimited access to over 100 Xbox One and Xbox 360 games, playable on the Xbox One. The obvious comparison is Netflix, but for games.
That same service with the same growing catalog of curated games is now officially headed to PC (just as Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella previously said it would be).
"Xbox Game Pass for PC will give players unlimited access to a curated library of over 100 high-quality PC games on Windows 10, from well-known PC game developers and publishers such as Bethesda, Deep Silver, Devolver Digital, Paradox Interactive, SEGA, and more. And just as we committed on the console, it is our intent to include new games from Xbox Game Studios in Xbox Game Pass for PC the same day as their global release, including titles from newly acquired studios like Obsidian and inXile," Microsoft stated in a blog post..
The service is only as good as the games, of course, and to that end Microsoft says it is working with over 75 developers and publishers. Microsoft also said that Xbox Game Pass for PC members will receive discounts of up to 20 percent on games that are currently in the library, and up to 10 percent off related game DLC and add-ons, albeit in the Microsoft Store.
There are a few important questions that Microsoft is not answering at moment, among them how much the service will cost on PC, whether a single subscription will cover both platforms (Xbox and PC) or if separate ones are needed to play on both, and exactly which games will be available.
"We look forward to sharing more at E3, including the great games coming to the library, as well as more details on when and how you’ll experience the new Xbox Game Pass service for PC gamers," Microsoft said.
E3 runs from June 7-11, with Microsoft on the docket for a press event on Sunday, June 9 at 4:00 pm ET (1:00 pm PT).
