Microsoft's Kinect Getting More Accurate With Time

At Google's I/O Conference this year, the company claimed that their Chromebooks would actually improve with time, as Google pushed out speed and security updates that the end-user would benefit immediately from. It's not often that you purchase a product that eventually gets better, but Microsoft is claiming that the Kinect is actually now more accurate than at launch. According to Xbox senior product manager David Dennis: "I think like we showed at E3, like Kudo [Tsunoda, creative director for Kinect] showed with Kinect Fun Labs--a lot of that tech is the advancements we've made in the accuracy, the tracking...being able to show finger tracking in the Sparkles demo he did. You saw too with Ubisoft's gunsmith demo [for Ghost Recon: Future Soldier] he was using his hand to fire in the firing range mode. I think that's the kind of thing we're going to continue to iterate on."

Improvements, huh? That's right. Over time, Microsoft has issued a number of software updates that have made a highly popular gaming controller even better at its job. The best part? This quote: "There are already people working on things for next year and the year after inside our secret bunkers, and we'll continue to bring amazing stuff that consumers love."

What kinds of things would you expect your Kinect to do with improved accuracy that it can't now? Home automation would be our pick -- can't afford to accidentally crank the A/C down to 50 degrees instead of 72.
