Motorola Moto G7 Play Leaks Via FCC Filing With Display Notch

The FCC is a very good place for fans of technology to peruse documents and glean details on devices that haven't been released to the public. FCC images gave us one of the first looks at the RED Hydrogen One smartphone that many had dubbed vaporware before it officially launched. The FCC has now given up many details on the Moto G7 Play mid-range smartphone ahead of its official launch.

Images show that the G7 Play will come in black or silver colors and has the familial looks of other devices Motorola has launched in recent years. The back of the smartphone has a single camera, and one of the beans that the FCC doesn't spill is precisely how many megapixels the rear camera sports. You can see in the images that the camera has LED flash. Under the Motorola logo on the back of the device lives the fingerprint sensor, a location common on most Android phones today.

The front camera carries an unspecified resolution and lives on the notched bezel at the top of the screen. It's joined there by the earpiece and sensors all living in a notch that you can't see in the FCC images, but can be seen clearly in the photos of the front of the user manual (posted below). The manual notes SIM and microSD card slots on the left side of the smartphone along with volume and power buttons on the right. The battery is called out as a 2,823mAh unit, much smaller than the 4,000 mAh unit that the Moto G6 Play used.

Audio fans will be glad to hear that unlike other smartphones out there that are ditching the headphone port, the G7 Play still has a standard 3.5mm port for your headphones. Motorola chose a Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 SoC paired with an Adreno 506 GPU to power the phone and this device has a USB-C port for charging. Radio and LTE bands cited by the FCC point to this device working on GSM carriers like AT&T or T-Mobile in the U.S. and with other GSM carriers globally. It's not clear where the G7 Play will be sold at this point or exactly when it might launch.
