Moto Z2 Force Reportedly Infected With OnePlus 5 ‘Jelly Scrolling’ Disease

So, what is jelly scrolling? Well, we’re glad that you asked. Jelly scrolling is an effect that causes on-screen text or images to appear distorted when navigating through the UI. This distortion, for example, can take the form of text appears to get squished or stretched apart as you scroll up and down a webpage.

The issue was first brought up via XDA Developers, and as was the case with the OnePlus 5, the Moto Z2 Force’s display is mounted upside down (relative to the display position in most other smartphones). This move likely allowed Motorola to reclaim some space at the top of the device for the front-facing selfie camera and other sensors, with the display connections now being relocated to the bottom of the device.

However, since the display typically refreshes from top to bottom in its normal position, it refreshes from bottom to top when inverted, which leads to the jelly scrolling. Watch the video below to see “jelly effect” in action:

It should be noted that previous Motorola devices have exhibited a similar effect — most notably the Droid Turbo — so the effect might not be of much concern for some people. However, for those that have never before experienced such display behavior, we can see how it would get annoying pretty quickly.
