Motorola Is Bringing Tasty Android 8.0 Oreo To These Moto Smartphones

Oreo

Mmm, Oreo! Everyone is eager to experience the tastiest version of Android to date, but is it coming to your smartphone anytime soon, or at all? If you own a Motorola device, we can answer those questions. Motorola posted a list of handsets that will be receiving the Android 8.0 update in the coming months. The list includes a dozen phones, including a bunch of Moto Z, Moto G, and a single Moto X model.

"Sweet just got even sweeter with the new Android OS update that gives you faster speeds, longer battery life, split-screen capabilities, smart text selection, improved notifications, autofill framework for your trickiest of passwords, and of course, the all new Google Play Protect, helping to ensure none of your apps become compromised," Motorola said. "We're happy to confirm Android 8.0 Oreo will be joining our fleet of Motorola smartphones, starting this fall."

We do not have specific roll out dates, but the list of handsets include the Moto Z, Moto Z Droid, Moto Z Force Droid, Moto Z Play, Moto Z Play Droid, Moto Z2 Play, Moto Z2 Force Edition, Moto X4, Moto G5, Moto G5 Plus, Moto G5S, and Moto G5S Plus.

What about the Nexus 6? Even though Motorola manufactured the Nexus 6, it is a Google phone and will therefore receive updates directly from Google. To our knowledge Nexus 6 devices have not yet started to receive the Android 8.0 update, though you can keep checking by going to Settings > About phone > System updates.

Android 8.0 Oreo launched around three weeks ago. According to Google, Oreo boots up to twice as fast as Nougat (on the Pixel). The focus on performance also extends to background app activity, for which Google put limits on to help improve overall system performance and boost battery life. It also includes a bunch of new features, such as intelligent Autofill and picture-in-picture (PiP) support.
