Motorola Moto Z2 Force Android 8.0 Oreo OTA Update Hits T-Mobile Network
Motorola announced a few months ago that it was planning to roll out the latest version of Google's mobile operating system, Android 8.0 Oreo, to several of its handsets. Making good on that promise, some Moto Z2 Force owners on T-Mobile have received the over-the-air update, joining their Moto Z2 Force brethren on Verizon, who recently began receiving the tasty upgrade.
A user on the XDA Developers forum uploaded a handful of screenshots showing the update. It is labeled as build number OCX27 and clocks in at nearly a 1GB (937.5MB, to be precise), so keep that in mind if you are on a data restriction of any sort. The Oreo update also comes bundled with all of the Android security fixes for the month of December, essentially whacking two birds with one stone.
Back in September, Motorola said it would be upgrading at least a dozen handsets to Android 8.0. In addition to the Moto Z2 Force, other phones mentioned at the time included the Moto Z, Moto Z Droid, Moto Z Force Droid, Moto Z Play, Moto Z Play Droid, Moto Z2 Play, Moto X4, Moto G5, Moto G5 Plus, Moto G5S, and Moto G5S Plus.
The Moto Z2 Force is an interesting phone, in that it is a ruggedized device built to withstand drops and certain acts of nature. Part of that entails a 5.5-inch shatterproof display with a 2560x1440 resolution and water-repelling nanocoating to protect against spills and rain.
Underneath the hood is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, 4GB of LPDDR4 memory, and 64GB of internal storage that is expandable by way of a micro SD card slot (supports up to 2TB). For shooting photos, it has dual 12-megapixel cameras on the rear and a 5-megapixel camera up front.
In our review of the device, we found that it performed as expected for a phone carrying a Snapdragon 835 SoC, but there are also some compromises, such as lack of optical image stablization and a non-premium feel to the display.
