Motorola's Throwback Razr Folding Smartphone Rumored For December Debut

We're now learning that the new Razr will actually launch in the United States this December and that it will have a price tag of $1,500. The smartphone's European launch will reportedly come "soon" after its initial debut stateside. It's also rumored that the Razr will unfortunately land -- at least initially -- as a Verizon exclusive.

Interestingly enough, both the Samsung Galaxy Fold and the Huawei Mate X were announced months ago and both have been delayed. The former was delayed due to issues with the display and the hinge, while the latter was delayed to further refine the design and add some upgraded hardware. However, if the delays continue through 2019, it's possible that the Razr could end up launching before either of those high-profile folding smartphones.

When it comes to specs, previous rumors have suggested that the new Motorola Razr will not come with flagship-worthy specs. That is probably directly attributed to the fact that the smartphone folds along the horizontal axis, which makes for a more compact, portrait-oriented design. That likely leaves less room for ultra-fast (and hot) SoCs like the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855.

In its place, the Razr is expected to rock a decidedly mid-range Snapdragon 710 SoC with as much as 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of internal storage. The battery is said to come in at relatively small 2730 mAh, while the folding display will measure 6.2 inches when fully extended. There will also be a small secondary display that is accessible when the smartphone is folded shut.

December is just a few short months away, so stay tuned for the inevitable stream of leaks that will spring up in the lead-up to the Motorola Razr launch.
