Motorola to Deliver Delicious Kit Kat Update to Moto X

Now that Google has officially launched its Nexus 5 smartphone, it marks the arrival of Android 4.4, otherwise known as KitKat. The Nexus 5 may be first out the door with the delicious new build, but it's only a matter of time before other handsets receive the update as well. Given that Google purchased Motorola's mobile business, you would think the company's handsets would also be getting the KitKat treatment, and for the most part, you'd be right.

One of the most popular Motorola devices, the Moto X manufactured right here in the good ol' U. S. of A. (in the state of Texas), will definitely be getting an infusion of KitKat. We can say this with complete confidence because Motorola has set up a webpage that allows you to look up various handsets to find out if an upgrade to Android 4.4 is forthcoming.

The listings don't indicate when the upgrade will arrive, just whether or not your mobile device will be making the jump. On AT&T, the Moto X is the only one listed with a KitKat upgrade path. Motorola's Atrix HD is currently running Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and seems like another possible candidate, but for the time being, Motorola is only saying, "Future plan coming soon."

That leaves the Atrix 2 (will remain on Ice Cream Sandwich), Atrix 4G (will remain on Gingerbread), and XPRT (will also remain on Gingerbread).

Things look a bit better over at Verizon where several devices are confirmed to receive a KitKat upgrade. These include the Moto X, Moto X DE, Droid Ultra, Droid MAXX, and Droid Mini. Motorola also left the door open on a handful of other devices rocking Jelly Bean.
