MSI Adds 15.6" CX500DX Notebook: Core 2 Duo Plus Discrete GPU
Another new day, another new MSI notebook! The company has really been expanding their mainstream line lately, with another new 15.6" machine being introduced today. The CX500DX is another multi-media powerhouse, equipped with a classic black outer shell, ATI's Mobility Radeon HD 545v discrete GPU (512MB) and a LED-backlit 16:9 widescreen display.
The entire machine measures just 3cm thick and weighs 2.48kg, and the exterior Color Film Print means that the paint changes color in the light. Spiffy! Other specifications include an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, up to 4GB of DDR2 memory, a 250GB/320GB/500GB SATA hard drive, DVD Super-Multi drive, a 4-in-1 card reader, VGA output, three USB 2.0 ports, audio in/out, 6- or 9-cell battery 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Ethernet and a 1.3MP camera. Of course, MSI also tosses in their ECO Engine for saving power when you don't need everything jacked, and the 1366x768 resolution panel is about average for a lower-end machine such as this.
No price or release information is given, but the Core 2 Duo chip signals that this will be a bargain machine. The discrete GPU is a great addition, though, and we certainly wish more lower-end machines would provide the ability to play back 720p/1080p movie clips like this one presumably will.
