MSI Unwraps GT75VR And GS63/73VR Kaby Lake Gaming Laptops With GTX 10-Series GPUs
MSI is one of the biggest players in the gaming laptop market with a wide range of models that cover the spectrum from thin and light notebooks that pack a punch, on up to desktop replacement systems with unbridled power inside. The company added to both market segments at Computex by announcing the new GT75VR, a monster laptop with three GPU options, and the GS63VR and GS73VR, a pair of slim gaming laptops with a GeForce GTX 1070 GPU inside.
Starting with the meatier of the two, the GT75VR is a muscular laptop that can be outfitted with a single GeForce GTX 1080 GPU, two GeForce GTX 1070 GPUs in SLI, or a single GeForce GTX 1070 GPU. It also features a burly Intel Core i7-7820HK processor, an unlocked chip with four cores and eight threads clocked at 2.9GHz to 3.9GHz with 8MB of cache. According to MSI, users should expect overclocks exceeding 4GHz.
MSI did not go into great detail about the specs, though it did say the GT75VR has a SteelSeries rapid RGB mechanical keyboard with customizable per-key illumination. There is also a diamond shaped palm rest. And as for the display, it has a 17.3-inch panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR color support.
For gamers who want graphics muscle without the physical bulk, MSI's GS63VR and GS73VR are being pitched as the world's slimmest gaming laptops with a GeForce GTX 1070 inside and a 120Hz display with a fast 3ms response time. To make that claim, MSI says the 15.6-inch GS63VR measures just 17.7mm at its thickest point and weighs just 4.19 pounds.
MSI did not provide measurements or a weight for the larger 17.3-inch GS73VR, though it did say the bigger laptop sports a brushed frame made from a high-density aluminum alloy. It also features a SteelSeries gaming keyboard.
Both laptops are equipped with 7th generation Intel Core i7 processor (Kaby Lake) options, up to 32GB of DDR4 RAM, a 2.5-inch HDD bay, and an M.2 NVMe SSD slot for ultra-fast storage drives that tap into the PCIe bus.
To keep all these parts cool inside such a thin chassis, MSI utilizes a cooling solution that consists of five heatpipes and two Whirland Blade fans. MSI says this combination is both effective in keeping dissipating heat and relatively quiet.
