NEC Goes for the Gold (Rating) with Eco-Friendly E231W LED Monitor

Sure, we'd all love to own multiple 30-inch displays configured in a swank Eyefinity setup, but then we're knocked down to reality when we do the math and figure out just how much something like that would cost. On the bright side, reality isn't so bad. There are plenty of options in the 23-inch and 24-inch monitor category to choose from, including NEC's new MultiSync E231W, an LED-backlit display the company says won't offend Mother Nature.

"NEC is committed to continuing its strong leadership role within the industry by contributing to a greener environment with an eco-friendly display in the quickly-growing 23-inch category," said Lynn Gu, Product Manager for NEC Display Solutions. "The Multisync E231W uses an LED-backlit panel to increase energy savings by up to 40 percent in comparison to conventional CCFL-backlit LCD monitors. This is especially beneficial for our business customers in this economic downturn."

Essentially a larger version of the 22-inch E222W, the E231W sports a Full HD (1920x1280) 16:9 widescreen LED panel; 25,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio; 4-way ergonomic stand with 110mm height adjustment, tilt, swivel, and pivot; ECO Mode and ambient light sensor; Intelligent Power Management (IPM) system and off timer; 5 preset modes (standard, text, movie, game, photo); and a multi-direction OSD NaViKey.

For you green types, the E231W boasts a number of environmentally friendly badges, including EPEAT Gold, Energy Star 5.0, and TCO 5.0 compliance, as well as a carbon footprint meter.

The MultiSync E231W will ship later this month for around $300.
