NEC Intros 27" MultiSync PA271W LCD Monitor

Larger may not always be superior, but in the case of LCD monitors, bigger is almost always the best choice if you have the space to spare. Dell, HP and Apple have all caused quite a lot of drool to be spilled thanks to their high-end, high resolution LCD panels, and now NEC is deciding not to sit on the sidelines any longer.

NEC Display has today introduced their very first 27" LCD product, the MultiSync PA271W. It's being added to the MultiSync PA Series of screens, and unlike many monitors, NECs are always designed with the creative pro in mind. Color accuracy is of the utmost importance on these, so you shouldn't worry about that if you tend to edit loads of photos and video.

The screen features a 10-bit IPS panel, a 2560x1440 native resolution, an internal 14-bit programmable 3D lookup table and the ability to display 1.07b colors when using the 10-bit DisplayPort input. The display is slated to ship this month for $1399, which isn't a bad price when you consider the pro-level features.

NEC DISPLAY SOLUTIONS UNVEILS UPDATES TO PROFESSIONAL DESKTOP DISPLAY PRODUCTS

New MultiProfiler Software, Updated Version of SpectraViewIIT Software Showcase the Features of the MultiSync® PA Series

CHICAGO - May 5, 2010 - NEC Display Solutions of America, a leading provider of commercial LCD display and projector solutions, announced today several updates to its professional display portfolio, including the addition of the new 27-inch MultiSync PA271W display to the MultiSync PA Series, the first release of the MultiProfiler display configuration application and SpectraViewII version 1.1.04, which adds support for the 24-inch MultiSync PA241W and the new MultiSync PA271W.

Featuring a new size for the professional desktop category, the MultiSync PA271W is a high-definition monitor designed for advanced graphics applications, digital photography, video editing, print production and other environments where color accuracy is critical. Boasting a 10-bit p-IPS panel, a 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution and internal 14-bit programmable 3D lookup tables (LUTs), the MultiSync PA271W can display 1.07 billion colors out of a palette of 4.3 trillion when using the 10-bit DisplayPort input and provides the widest viewing angles available with minimal off-angle color shift using XtraView+T technology.

The new MultiProfiler application is exclusive to the MultiSync PA Series and provides easy-to-use control over several features. The application features Picture Mode preset configuration, which utilizes the SpectraViewII Engine in all MultiSync PA Series displays to allow multiple color modes to be quickly configured based on gamma characteristics, color gamut, white point and brightness for applications such as real-time print preview and matching of legacy displays. The Picture-in-Picture (PIP) configuration allows two video signals to be viewed simultaneously in a secondary PIP or Picture-by-Picture (PBP) window configuration. MultiProfiler also allows users to manage the monitor’s USB hub and map the various monitor inputs, such as multiple computers attached to one display. The automatic generation of ICC profiles by MultiProfiler aids users when switching between or adjusting color modes. MultiProfiler is compatible with Apple Mac OS 10.3.9 or higher and Microsoft Windows 2000, XP, Vista and Windows 7.

“The arrival of these new updates to our professional desktop products brings an incredible level of control to our customers,” said Art Marshall, Product Manager for NEC Display Solutions. “The most recent version of SpectraViewII brings compatibility of our award-winning calibration software to the MultiSync PA Series, while the new MultiProfiler software provides a simple, intuitive interface to perform a variety of custom functions that will aid graphics professionals.”

The new release of SpectraViewII version 1.1.04 brings the complete color calibration solution for NEC displays to the MultiSync PA Series. In addition, the arrival of two new SpectraViewII models, the 24-inch PA241W-BK-SV and 27-inch PA271W-BK-SV, offer highly accurate color for demanding users who require crisp images and infinite perfection by touting a 1000:1 contrast ratio and up to 360 cd/m² of brightness. Their screens cover more than 97 percdent of AdobeRGB, more than 92 percent of NTSC and 100 percent of sRGB. Enhanced connectivity for these models includes DisplayPort, two DVI-D inputs and a USB hub.

The MultiSync PA271W is available for May 2010 shipment with an estimated street price of $1,399 and ships with a 4-year parts and labor warranty, including the backlight. The MultiSync PA241W-BK-SV and PA271W-BK-SV models with SpectraViewII and 4-year warranty are available for May 2010 shipment with an estimated street price of $1,329 and $1,649, respectively.
