NEC's New EA232WMi Sports an IPS Panel

NEC this week announced the its new 23-inch MultiSynic EA232WMi display intended for corporate, financial, healthcare, engineering, CAD, and other professional applications. Why so? Part of the reason is because of the sexy LED backlit IPS panel, which offers superior viewing angles and better color accuracy than what you'll find on your average TN-based monitor. But there's more to it than that.

"The MultiSync EA232WMi provides our elite IT customers with several improvements over its predecessor," said Lynn Gu, Product Manager for NEC Display Solutions. "Its LED backlight and mercury-free composition make it greener, and it is lighter in weight, consumes less power and is a recipient of TCO 5.1, the newest TCO compliance rating. We work diligently to develop products that operate hand-in-hand with users, and the ergonomics, technologies and energy efficiency built into the MultiSync EA Series accomplish that objective."

Sounds like a bunch of marketing chest-thumping, but for what it's worth, our recent examination of NEC's PA271W panel left us more than a little impressed. Like that other IPS-based monitor, the EA232WMi works in both portrait and landscape mode. Other features include a Full HD 1920x1080 resolution; 25,000:1 contrast ratio (dynamic, of course); DisplayPort, DVI-I, and VGA connectivity; integrated 4-port USB 2.0 hub; down-firing speakers with audio jack; and an ambient light sensor.

The EA232WMi will go on sale this month for around $300 street.
