Netflix Expansion Continues: Headed To Nordic Nations This Year

Netflix is expanding, and in a major way. The company's home turf may still be the USA, but it's absolutely vital to expand that reach to foreign lands before similar companies like Lovefilm do likewise and grab the early lead in market share. With digital streaming clearly taking the place of by-mail DVDs, it's -- in a way -- easier than ever for Netflix to reach new places. Just ink an agreement, and let the Internet tubes do the rest. But, of course, that's easier said than done. Still, Netflix is following up on its expansion into Latin America with another big push overseas. This time, it's headed to Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Finland before the end of 2012.

That's streaming only, of course, with TV shows and movies included. Upon launch, broadband Internet users in the Nordic countries can subscribe to Netflix and instantly watch a wide array of Hollywood, local and global TV shows and movies; many with high definition video and Dolby Digital Plus surround sound.People in the Nordics interested in becoming Netflix members can go to www.netflix.com to sign up to receive an e-mail alert when Netflix has launched. Further details about the service, including pricing, content and supported devices, will be announced closer to launch.

Unfortunately, that's a lot of details left open, but it's still a huge achievement to land in so many new nations. Next up? Asia? Russia? The world?
