Nikon Unleashes D3X

If you’re seriously considering taking your photography skills to the next level and have about eight grand lying around, then you’ll be interested to hear that Nikon announced the new D3X DSLR. While not cheap, this camera definitely brings its fair share of bragging rights.

The D3X can take pictures that will put other cameras to shame, thanks in part to its 24.5-megapixel (6,048 x 4,032) CMOS FX sensor. Additionally, this high-end camera sports full resolution shooting at up to 5 frames per second, an ISO from 100 to 1600, and a newly updated EXPEED image processing system.

As an upgrade to the 12.1-megapixel FX-format D3 introduced in 2007, the D3X is ready to tackle just about anything you want to photograph with a start up time of just 0.12 seconds and a shutter release lag of only 0.04 seconds. The camera also features Nikon’s Scene Recognition System, 3D Color Matrix Metering II, Active D-Lighting, and a handful of other exposure controls and sensors to ensure you get the best shot every time. When composing an image, you can choose from any of the 51 autofocus points, one of three autofocus area modes, or use Live View to frame an image using the camera’s 3-inch LCD.

The D3X is also compatible with Nikon’s newly announced GP-1 GPS receiver that can gather information such as latitude, longitude, altitude, and date of shooting.

The camera will be available for purchase sometime this month, just in time for you to spoil yourself or someone you know for the holidays. Oh, and don’t forget the high-capacity flash cards—you’ll need ‘em, since processed images at full resolution exceed 138 MB.
