Nintendo Classic Edition Console To Feature Retro CRT And Modern ‘Pixel Perfect’ Modes

Nintendo's pulling out all the stops with its NES Classic Edition console, especially in regards to how the more than two dozen baked in retro titles will look on your big screen TV. Utilizing your HDMI input, you'll have a standard HD-resolution gaming experience if that's what you're after, but the console will also support some old school viewing modes.

Julie Gagnon, the communications manager at Nintendo of Canada, explained the different display options available on the NES Classic Edition during an interview with a French-language radio show. According to Gagnon, nostalgic gamers will have the option of selecting a display mode that simulates the old CRT televisions that most people probably played these games on originally.

There will also be a 4:3 format option, as well as a "pixel perfect" mode that displays each pixel as a perfect square. That latter should allow for a sharper image compared to playing original NES titles as emulated on the Wii and Wii U.

Nintendo's putting a lot of effort into bringing back epic gaming experiences from an earlier era with the conveniences of today's luxuries. As part of that, not only will gamers have different display options to choose from, there will also be permanent and instant temporary save points in each of the 30 bundled games. That means not having to power through a game in a single sitting if you prefer a more relaxed and forgiving experience.
