Nintendo Switch Joy-Con Drift Defect Sparks Potential Class Action Lawsuit

The Nintendo Switch has been around for a few years and has proven to be a very popular console with gamers. However, some gamers have had an issue with the Nintendo Switch thumb joystick on the removable Joy-Con controllers, which will register movement even when they aren't being touched. This phenomenon has been dubbed "Switch Joy-Con drift," and a law firm is looking at filing a class action suit over the issue.

The law firm reportedly preparing to sue Nintendo is called Chimicles, Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith. The law firm is asking anyone who owns a Switch to fill out a contact form to be a part of the suit. There is no guarantee that the lawsuit will move forward right now.

The law firm wrote, "CSK&D is investigating a potential class action based upon reports that the Nintendo Joy-Con controller for their Nintendo Switch gaming console can experience joystick drift issues. Specifically, it is reported that the joystick on the Joy-Con will automatically register movement when the joystick is not being controlled and interfere with gameplay."

It has been a big few months for Nintendo. The gaming giant launched the Switch Lite game console that is smaller and more portable than the original Nintendo Switch and lacks removable Joy-con controllers. Nintendo has also rolled out an updated Nintendo Switch that uses a new SoC and promises significantly increased battery life compared to the original console. This week, Nintendo teamed up with Southwest airlines to give every passenger on one Southwest flight a new Nintendo Switch console and a copy of the new Super Mario Maker 2 game.
