Nokia 4.2 Budget Android Phone Hits US May 14th With Wallet Friendly $189 Price Tag
Following an appearance at the Mobile World Congress event earlier this year, HMD Global on Wednesday launched its Nokia 4.2 smartphone, and has opened up the mid-range device to preorders. Here is the best part though—the asking price is a comparatively scant $189, making the Nokia 4.2 one of the more affordable handsets around.
Obviously at that price the phone does not come with bleeding edge hardware, and as such it is not going to topple the likes of Samsung's Galaxy S10 or Apple's iPhone XS Max, or any flagship phone that is out there. Those phones are faster, and of course they cost way more as a result, topping a grand in some cases (depending on the configuration).
So what does the Nokia 4.2 bring to the table? It wields a 5.71-inch HD+ (1520x720) display with a bottom bezel that is home to Nokia's branding, and a teardrop notch at the top to accommodate the 8-megapixel selfie camera. There are two more lenses around back, including a 12-megapixel primary shooter paired with a 2-megapixel camera that tackles depth sensing chores.
The Nokia 4.2 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 octa-core processor (four performance cores and four efficiency cores), an Adreno 505 GPU, and 3GB of RAM. Onboard storage is a paltry 32GB, though fortunately the handset has a microSD card slot. A 3,000 mAh battery rounds out the hardware.
This handset is part of the Android One family, which ensures a clean and clutter free OS. Out of the box, it comes with Android 9 Pie installed. Other features include a dedicated Google Assistant button, facial recognition support, and a fingerprint sensor.
The Nokia 4.2 is available to preorder on Amazon for $189 and will release on May 14.
