Nokia 9 PureView Android Flagship Spotted With Penta-Camera Design
For a long stretch of time, we could pretty much predict what any new flagship smartphone would entail: a faster processor, better camera performance (sometimes with higher megapixel counts), and potentially more storage. Those things still mostly apply, but there's also the push to implement full front displays and fancier camera arrangements, both of which Nokia's upcoming 9 PureView will purportedly deliver.
A new and supposedly leaked image gives a view of the back of the Nokia 9 PureView, and what we clearly see is the rumored Penta-Lens design. The image is consistent with previous leaks showing the flagship Android device with five rear cameras, plus two additional cutouts of the same size—one for the LED flash (which is lit up in the leaked image) and another for the proximity sensor.
The total arrangement consists of seven circular cutouts for what adds up to a bug eyed design. It's a big departure from the usual one, two, and even sometimes three camera arrangements in a vertical or horizontal bar. As shown in the leaked image, the seven cuts take up about a third of the backside of the Nokia 9 PureView.
The sheer number of camera sensors on the handset inevitably heighten expectations as to the phone's picture taking capabilities. Whether the phone can live up to them remains to be seen. It's rumored that Nokia actually delayed the phone's release until 2019 because of the device's underwhelming camera performance.
It also remains to be seen what other hardware and features will find their way into the Nokia 9 PureView. Initially, it was rumored to ship with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, and it still might. However, there's not a Snapdragon 855 processor in the wild.
Other rumored specs include a 5.9-inch Quad HD+ display, up to 8GB of RAM, and up to 128GB of onboard storage, all powered by a 4,150 mAh battery.
The Nokia 9 PureView is expected to launch sometime in 2019.
